Why We Start With Mental Wellness

Lisa R. Savage, LCSW · July 25, 2026

You can't teach well when you're running on empty. Nobody can.

We've spent years working inside Delaware schools, and we see the same thing over and over. Educators give their students everything they've got. The worry, the extra hours, the weight of a room full of kids, each carrying something. Their own wellness slides to the bottom of the list.

That's why this portal starts with mental wellness.

Mental wellness doesn't mean being happy all the time or pretending the job isn't hard. It means having what you need to handle what the job asks of you. Knowing what's going on with your students. Having words for a hard moment. Keeping your own tank from hitting empty.

Here's what you'll find here.

Tools you can use tomorrow. Plain-language guides on anxiety, behavioral concerns, and the moments that catch you off guard, written by clinicians who work in schools every day. Short enough to read before first period.

Support for you. A private wellness check-in you can take anytime. Resources on burnout, boundaries, and getting through a hard stretch. And when a handout isn't enough, our Educator Wellness Program connects you with confidential care built for educators.

A place to come back to. I'll be posting here in the Staff Room regularly. Encouragement, ideas, honest talk about this work.

None of this makes the job easy. But a script can change how tomorrow's hard conversation goes, and a two-minute check-in can catch burnout before it catches you.

So take the wellness check this week. Look around the library. Come back to the Staff Room when you need a lift.

Thank you for what you give the children and families in your classrooms. You take care of them. Let us help take care of you.
